AutoCad 2004 Image Mapping
« on: September 23, 2011, 02:18:11 PM »
Reversed (mirrored) image in a file created by a user, and I can't for the life of me remember how to get it to display correctly. Any suggestions?

It mirrors.

Guess I gotta splain it better...

A user mapped an image to a material, assigned by layer. It displays correctly in the Materials preview, but when rendered it is reversed (mirrored).

you need to run face normals... as the material is on the backside...
or I think there is an option in the material called Force 2 sided....let me check

Material Mapping, rotate the material about the correct plane (axis)

The crappy workaround I found myself having to do at times, is to create a copy of the material's image texture.  There's no way to "snap" to incremental degrees when rotating the material map, which is mega frustrating for textures that necessary to line up with object edges.  That little 3d icon with the 3 circles you use to rotate the map?  Yea I hate that thing.  No end of trouble.  So instead, I'd often manipulate the image itself, in GIMP (or Photoshop if you have it) or even MS Paint, and just roll with that, for more precise control over the map.

one can also use 3d rotate and flip the face(s) in question

the face normal command is in 3d viz/max (it all starts to blur together after a while)

I just created a mirrored image of the original and mapped that to it. I never get this problem, but it happens to one user constantly, and it would be great to find out why.

watch them create their 3d objects....my guess is they are mirroring some of them...
or drawing the object inside out   ;-)

Also I believe that depending on direction one draws 'faces' they are either normal, or backwards to the viewer... although you can't tell UNTIL you put a material map on it.
