I actually created the existing ground profile as dynamic. However, I had to change it to static so I could copy it and lower it in the profile view so my pipeline would show up. Is there a better way of showing the existing ground and pipeline profile?
Thanks for the help.
Yes there is another way to show Pipelines in profiles, with great fidelity.
It has a few issues however if you work with it a little it will prove effective.
Process,
Create Feature Line, (you may want to control where vertexes are placed at high/low points or there frequency along the feature line by drawing a polyline first.
When you transform this polyline into a feature line be sure to Assign Elevations to it From the Existing surface (or Proposed) then you will need to decide did you place vertexes at ALL critical locations? If yes then be sure that the toggle to Insert intermediate elevations is OFF. If you are unsure and or want the pipes to EXACTLY follow the surface toggle this option ON.
Raise or lover the feature line (select Rt Click operation) so that the elevations are the INVERT of your pipes
Explode the feature line ONCE
Then from pipes menu, select Create Pipe network from object, and be sure to toggle on the option to USE Object Vertexes, the pipe network will then be created.
If one turns on the Profile/Station tracking tool it's fairly easy to be sure one is hitting the high and low points along the profile.
This is where it would be create IF autodesk would FIX pipes and allow us to place the /create the network WITHOUT Null structures in the runs. It DID work this way at one point.
However they can be selected and deleted all at once using a select similar operation.
This may seem harder however the dynamic labels etc that one gets by actually creating the Pipe Network instead of just drafting a line in profile does reap rewards later in terms of drafting and annotation tasks.
