No. (Unless the multi-line attributes in 2008+ can do it.)I use visibility states w/ two sets of attributes for these...kind of a pain, but it works.

That would work great if the architects could remember to send it when the remember to send the xrefs

Ooooh! What if... just go with me on this one... What if... you had an Excel document linked to the block's ID which linked to an external web page that held the attribute information. And maybe... just maybe... you could edit the information from the web page..... WITHOUT EVEN NEEDING AUTOCAD!! Naaaahhhh......
