xclip rectangle selection is showing as diagonal line
« on: December 29, 2010, 10:31:17 AM »
when i am trying to xclip a block and am using the rectangle option, the "window" is not a rectangle but is a line from corner to corner.  This is only happening in one file.  Way back when i knew there was a variable that controlled this but i cannot find it.   Any help is much appreciated.

what UCS are you in when you perform the xclip?

WORLD is the good choice

did you try, draw a RECTANGLE (be sure it is closed) first and then select the polygon?

ucs is set to world and i can create a rectangle 1st then select as boundary.  I can also select to create boundary with polygon and that works like normal.

are you accidentally SNAPPING to something?

can I see the drawing (remove any 'proprietary' information) if that is a concern.

I'll use my own xref file to clip here....

continuing my research here for you

OK...the exact cause has not yet been revealed to me...

the SOLUTION:

Start a new drawing from your template, insert this BAD drawing as an exploded block...the dragged XCLIP rectangle boundary will then be displayed.

It seems to be a drawing specific variable.

yes definitaley a drawing specific variable, does the same on other workstations and on this file only.  Would have already created a new file if the original didn't have the floor plan xref'd in it 12 times as well as the site, survey and building sections and 4 sheet layouts.

for now..I would say just define your rectangle first as a polygon to do any clipping

and I'll keep researching here...and post or email actual working solution upon discovery of same.

Alternately...there is a routine somewhere here on the swamp to compare variables between drawings...I'll probably resort to using that here shortly.

OK...I think I have a clue

This must have to do with some of the 'color' settings for the user in that file.
As a test go to paperspace, and attach a(n) XREF
Then use XCLIP>>Rectangle
The clipping rectangle shows up while you drag the cursor.

So the rectangle IS being shown in model space only it is BLACK and thus invisible!

now to find out what setting is causing this......
