Line Label on Alignment?

How would someone go about adding line labels (bearing and distance) to an alignment? The only thing I can come up with is add another non-plottable line/polyline atop the alignment and then labeling it. Surely there's a better way within the confines of C3d.

In C3D 2009, you can also use General Segment Labels on Alignments and Parcels.
Unfortunately, you can't do the opposite, and use Parcel or Alignment label styles on lines and curves...
