What are .xlg files?
« on: July 18, 2006, 04:54:39 PM »
I have a ton of them in my project folders. Looks like every dwg file has an .xlg file. But hte .xlg files are wayyyyy larger than the dwg's. I want to get rid of them but wnat to know if deleting them will affect any of my drawing files. Anyone know?

TIA!

They are xref logs, you can nuke 'em if you want. See the xrefctl system variable in the help.

Yes, I searched for the file extension and found out what they are but what is the purpose of haviing a log file thats 2-3x larger than my original dwg file? Btw, what version of AutoCAD is creating this .xlg file? I have mixed versions in the office and if I can filter out what version is doing it that would help me fix this issue faster.

Anyone actually use the xref log files?

Thanks for the help guys!

I dont think 2000 creates xlg files. That is what I use and never saw it till now. I know I setup a few users on our network with 2006 and 2007 so I was assuming it was their program creating it. I already corrected their settings.

MP: The xrefctl sys. variable... 1 is enabled and 0 is disabled correct?

Thanks guys!

From the trusty help:
Quote from: XREFCTL
Controls whether AutoCAD writes external reference log (XLG) files.

0   Does not write log files
1   Writes log files
