I'm looking for the basic structure, something that could be used in a presentation. A 3D drawing is the ultimate goal.

Will do. Thanks Michael.

also let me hit these other folks...I think they were doing a wind farm siting study, and might have some pin wheels, I mean Turbines for you....are you in the 120' blade range out there in the swamps?

These are the big ones from what I gather, 500' towers.

OK, just for fun and games (and to review the 3d tools in 2010) I've ripped this one out for you.
I've use (meters) for units and the Base Point is the Bottom of a 500' tower and a modified dihedral blade (40 meters)
a generic nose cone and generator housing structure on top. You might want to rev or extrude a main axle to connect the blades/hub to the Generator box should that angle be in view in your renders.  I did not round the tips of the turbine blades; not that they all are, for your stated needs that shouldn't be an issue.  You have most of the primatives so have fun!

What I might do from here, is apply some basic material (white paint) to most of it and a decal/image map to the turbine housing for the (utility, client. or your company logo), then save 3 or 4 versions with different rotations applied to the blades.  Then insert these as reference blocks to build up the wind farm.

Oh, yeah,
this is crossing into C3D; if one sets up a point style/description key that uses the Turbines as the points symbol.  Then one can use points on surface command (Gird of points) and place a small herd of them rather quickly.  Then just kill a few random ones it looks pretty good.  Alternately, if one inserts the turbines as blocks, one should then use the move blocks to surface function.

Thank you, very much! I was going to try my hand at drawing one too but couldn't even find some specs for one.

Could I get that in an older version? Say '09 maybe.

Thanks Michael

And to think folks believe I'm on a TIRADE when I complain about lack of compatability between versions....

Anyway before I go off on a rant ;) ...

Here it is in 2007 format from the 2010 True View converter.

Specs....we don't need no stinking specs....   8-)  <<theres yer specs

Although I must say the experience was overall GOOD.  There are still some interface and command settings in this 2010 that are enough different that I must say it impacted the overall speed of the process.  However there are a lot a of good basic 3d tools to play with!

On a side note; during my research for the model, I happened across a company in Japan that creates blades in a 'composite' method using Bamboo fibers! Now that is both GREEN and SUSTAINABLE!  Wind power blades made from big giant weeds (bamboo)!
