1. PROFESSIONALISM

Please be professional and courteous when participating at THESWAMP.ORG.

This means -- [2] No flaming, [3] no profanity and [4] being courteous in a global context.

2. FLAMING

"... Flaming is the act of posting messages that are deliberately hostile and insulting..." From wikipedia.org

Flaming will not be tolerated at THESWAMP.ORG and we reserve the right to temporarily or permanently ban members who flame -- with or without warning.

3. PROFANITY

Profanity is prohibited at THESWAMP.ORG.

Posts that contain the use of words considered insulting, rude or vulgar in meaning (this includes acronyms that are typically used to represent profane words or statements) will be deleted -- not edited.

Any person using profanity will be warned twice.

A third incident of profanity will result in immediate banning without warning.

4. GLOBAL COURTESY

Please remember THESWAMP.ORG has members from around the globe and accordingly, not all participants employ perfect English. Belittling anyone whose mother tongue is not English for less than perfect English or grammar will not be tolerated and will result in appropriate action that can include banning and removal of posts.

5. MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS

In short multiple accounts are not allowed at THESWAMP.ORG. That is, you are allowed to have precisely one account at The Swamp. The forum software we use allows us to track I.P. addresses, in other words -- we know who you are. Superfluous accounts will be deleted.

6. FREE SPEECH

There is no such thing here. This is a privately owned forum. While THESWAMP.ORG (and it's resources) are free to registered users its use is subject to these guidelines and rules.

7. POSTING CODE YOU DIDN'T AUTHOR

    Core guidelines:

Attribution- If you didn't author it identify the author.
Permission- If the the author is not a member of the swamp, get permission from the author before posting.
Linking- If possible post a link to the original solution rather than static source code. This ensures the latest version of the solution is made available to those viewing your post.
Diligence- In your post identify what steps you took to attempt to fulfill the above.

8. THE BOTTOM LINE

We want this to be a fun place, a safe place -- a professional place for friends and associates from around the globe, no matter their race, religion or sex to share talents, resources and friendship.

This means you have to make the effort to ensure your posts are friendly and do not offend.

Do err on the side of kindness.

Eric Steven Raymond wrote a fine article titled How To Ask Questions The Smart Way. Please take the time to read it and note that Eric's site is not intended to serve as a help desk for THESWAMP.ORG.

Sincerely,

THESWAMP.ORG

Many thanks to those involved in crafting these guidelines.
