In some ways I hope not, wouldve been better if they'd had waited for a 2006 version, let everyone at least get used to 2004 and also wait till they developed a better product, not just knock out another product in the hope that well all part with more cash. Some more info from a more reliable source, maybe only rumours though.

Who can tell ....  I am getting to the point where I think that Autodesk has taken the high road to profits over usability and plain good sense. While MOST users have not yet migrated to 2004, it could be a ploy to get them to do so pretty quickly so they can incerease revenues. After all who wants to be using a version that is 4 or 5 releases behind the rest of the world?

Could you imagine using R12 right now? It is only 5 releases back from 2004, and 2000 is 3 versions behind 2004, so it could be that since they want to "encourage" users to upgrade that they make people fearful that they will be left behind and they will immediately go out and buy the latest upgrade or at least upgrade to the "next to last" version.

As far as upgrading goes, I got a newsletter thingy from my re-seller that said something like the 15th was the last day to upgrade 2000.

Yep, thats right Daron
January was the last time to upgrade any Autodesk 2000 products. I had an email a little while back stating that.

Better get in quick then,as youll have to fork out for the full version.Sickening really as aN AutoCAD customer you should have some privileges over a new customer, like being to able uprgade when you want.Another thing is if they bring versions out too quickly you'll have a spread of companies all with different types versions of CAD.The last few years the common version used by companies was 2000,now we'll have 2000,2004 & 2005.Maybe I shouldve started this thread off in The Vent! :)

From the second link (I added the emphasis):

Quote
Introducing AutoCAD 2005

Published: 8/15/2004 - Item Not Yet Available

I'd say 'Published by Autodesk' is official word, wouldn't you?

But it's important that we notice the published and copyright dates... which is confusing. Is it legal to copyright something before it exists?

I hereby attach copyright to AutoCAD 2006 and later versions ... (since it appears it can be done in advance) Do you think I could get away with it?

Hell, I'll go to court for you!
"Yes, your honor, that scoundrel did it just to p*** of AutoDORK!    But then, who better deserves the shaft, your honor?  Look at what they've been doin' to US lately!"

Actually, no you can't. The name AutoCAD is a registered trademark of Autodesk and is, therefore, only copyrightable by them or with permission from them in use of a title. At least that's how I understand it. Of course, IANAL (I am not a Lawyer).
