PDF Referencing (Locks up drawing)
« on: November 17, 2017, 09:09:59 AM »
Just wanted to get some ideas why some PDFs are hard to reference in a drawing. Zooming in gets bogy and slow. Or the new one I just found out. If you use the align command to align a PDF to a vector. It just sits and locks up until the famous control alt delete.

Are there ways to "Optimized" PDFs where they can be used "similar to an image or xref"?

Most PDF's are that way for me. If I really need it as a background, I convert to PNG then reference it for performance.

That's interesting... I have tried exporting it to a TIFF which is fast but quality stinks. I think one time I tried to PDFattach it into its own drawing. Then Take that drawing xref it into the one your currently working on. (Pain in the but).

AutoCAD is getting better with each release in terms of processing vector PDFs. Your other best bet is to convert the PDF into AutoCAD entities.  It's far from perfect but has come along quite nicely.
