Anybody know if Jeff M is okay in Santa Rosa?
« on: October 09, 2017, 05:58:05 PM »
Hi all, I have been watching the news and it seems that Santa Rosa is in dire straits with wildfire. Anybody heard from Jeff_M lately?

I'm here, Mike. Thanks for checking! I'm in the southwest side of Santa Rosa, the majorly hit areas are to the north a few miles and the east a few more miles. Extremely smoky, staying indoors (at home) watching the news. At least 10 friends and family members have lost everything, with more likely to be included as they have been evacuated but no news as to the status of their homes.

Not sure what pictures are being shown to the nation/world, but one of them I've seen on Facebook shows the Coffee Park neighborhood being completely wiped out...this is one of the first subdivision designs I did, and named one of the streets after my 2 year old daughter (she's 38 now).

Amazing how the wind can cause a small grass fire, 20 miles away, to grow to 35,000 acres in less than 12 hours.

Thanks for checking-in Jeff. Had no idea you were in the Santa Rosa area.

Sad hat others have been affected so tragically by these fires.

Staying safe, so far. Someone used a drone to create a 12 minute HD video, mainly in and around the Coffee Park area that I mentioned.

This is just 3 miles north of me...

So sorry to hear your friends and family have been devastated by the firestorm Jeff. Hope the fire is extinguished soon. Be safe and secure.

I know how that can be - grew up in the SW British Columbia area.  Watch the air quality, stay prepped for evacuation orders.

And have that drone pilot mind the air teams - there were a few problems with those in the BC interior this summer.  They have enough to deal with without worrying about drone strikes.
If you are going to fly by the seat of your pants, expect friction burns.

The drone operators have now been warned to keep them grounded. The National Guard has arrived here and will be doing their own drone reconnaissance to evaluate the full extent of the damage (which is still growing, 0% containment on the 4 fires nearby). New Red Flag warnings issued for the area from 5 tonight to 5 tomorrow night, winds aren't supposed to be as bad as Sunday night but still strong and from the danger/dry direction.
