Families In Project Template(s)
« on: June 12, 2017, 09:22:15 am »
Are family definitions stored in project templates or are they pulled in from the library location when the template is open?

I am asking this because I've got project templates set up and am redefining some of the families that are in the piping routing preferences. So far, I've been replacing the families in the templates as I change them.

I think they are stored in the template file, I've made changes to families mid project and had to reload them into the template when I start a new project.

I never keep my families in the template (except for a few basic ones like fittings and such but that is only because fittings have to exist in a Revit file for it to be valid). All other equipment families is kept in a directory on the network.

Hmmm, what a coincidence. I'm working on the symbols for some basic fittings needed for routing preferences.

Anyway, I think I've got my answer from hudster, which does make sense.
