PLINE on surface at grade
« on: May 04, 2017, 12:02:32 PM »
I posted this in the Vertically Challenged forum as well.

Does anyone have or know of a routine that will allow me to draw a polyline on a surface in Civil 3D at a specific grade automatically?  Ideally it would be nice if I could pick a point on the surface, enter a grade either up or down, and either a distance, or perhaps let it draw the PLINE until it can't find a solution.

I know it's a lot to ask for, so thanks for looking!

Cheers

plines cannot have an elevation different at various verticies.
what your are describing sounds like exactly what a featureline does, which could be exploded to a 3d poly.

I should have said 3DPoly, because that's what I was thinking.  Let me clarify that what I want is to pick a point on the surface, and have the routine find the path along the surface using the grade/slope I provide.

Dave, you didn't like my response to your original post in the LandLubbers area?

Actually, I do like it.  I also found an add-in on the Autodesk App Store that will do exactly what I want.  I was hoping to find something that was free so that I wouldn't have to jump through the corporate hoops, but thank you for your link!
