New "orange dot" in menu - how to customize?
« on: December 06, 2016, 04:51:19 PM »
Since version 2017.(1?) there is a new feature - the "orange dot" in the ribbons and menus which shows that the command is new or has changed.

Can it be customized for user defined menus?

The system variable HIGHLIGHTNEW turns that feature on and off. I don't think that API is exposed for use on your own custom menu items.

I've never seen the dot before. Is this only when an update is applied?

Correct

Controls whether new features in product updates are highlighted in the user interface with an orange dot.

Updates to the current version of the product can include new commands and options. To highlight these changes, orange dots are applied to their ribbon buttons, dialog box options, or palettes.

This command is accessible from the Help drop-down menu, and the setting is stored in the SHOWNEWSTATE system variable.

For me, in AutoCAD 2017 1.1 German, I can use "shownewstate" and "_.-higlightnew / neumarkieren". But ...

- I have no entry in the Help-Pulldown and
- I see not dots ...
