PDF measures incorrectly over viewport
« on: July 12, 2016, 11:38:06 AM »
I had a user email me a PDF yesterday that has some kind of scaling oddity.
If you print the PDF, everythying scales correctly, however, if you use the measure tool in Acrobat, it doesn't measure correctly. I even noticed that if I place the graphic scale (in paperspace) atop the viewport, it doesn't scale properly either, but away from the viewport scales as it should.
Thoughts?

how are you printing?

Actual Size

Scale to fit

etc...

the issue may be incorrect 'paper' size in the page setup they used, and or they plotted to window/fit to paper...or some other randomness

the resultant PDF wont tell us much, the source drawing/plotting method is where the issue originates.

Scale: 1" = 1'
Plot area set to extents and Layout and neither work.
All is correct. I even created a new layout and viewport in the drawing and it still creates the strange PDF.

Thing is, if you print the PDF to paper, it scales correctly.

what do you mean by this

Quote

As in the page setup doesn't yield a good plot preview, or expected output?o

OR

the pdf still scales wrong when inserted back into autocad?

Suggest you strip identifying data and let us see the drawing or some form thereof

notice this...

when inserting your wacky pdf into a black file on a layout tab...

Quote
Enter page number or [?] <1>:
Specify insertion point: 0,0,0
Base image size: Width: 36.0029, Height: 24.0019, Feet

appears to go back to correct page size defined when printed...because my brain says that paper is supposed to be 36x24 with no extra digits

Seems to be an Adobe bug, the two scales are correct in BlueBeam.

You've probably already done this, but have you verified the VPort scale is correct in the DWG?

It seems the embedded scale ratio is off in the PDF. Obviously it should be 10, but it's 7.07. It's possible to turn it off in Adobe by starting the Measuring Tool, then right clicking the drawing area and selecting Preferences and unckecking the box under "Measuring (2D)" at the top that says "Use Scale and Units from Document (when present)". Then you can manually set the Scale ratio to 10 by right clicking the drawing area again and selecting "Change Scale Ratio".

It has to be something in the file.
Let me see if I can hack out enough and post the DWG.
