C3D 2017 - Style Templates
« on: May 20, 2016, 06:18:18 PM »
Questions about the style templates in 2017...
One reason we've not been able to use the plan and production tool is because people screw up styles when creating the sheets. They select the wrong styles, do a bunch of work, and then the only way to fix it is to open all the drawings and fix them all manually....so we've stuck with xrefs and manually cutting sheets, where changes can be made in one drawing.

1st) If sheets are cut using the plan and production tool would do we still have to associate each dwg file it creates with a style template?
2nd) Do the style templates work with all styles (pipes/labels/surfaces/notes, etc), or just particular ones?

You can create multiple templates with styles and reference them in your default template.

Styles used in the new drawings that are based on the styles in the style templates are always updated to the style templates.

But people still can mess up by duplicating styles, creating own styles, renaming styles, etc. You cannot avoid any mess unless you ducttape every colleage to the ceiling and do it yourself.
The conclusion is justified that the initialization of the development of critical subsystem optimizes the probability of success to the development of the technical behavior over a given period.

sounds like a training issue, not a software one...

Thanks guys. Do you know if the plan and production tool in 2017 uses style templates by default, or do I need to set it for each drawing it creates?

Would anyone know in the future or currently there is a way to lock the styles? (So no one can change them). I do get people will always create news ones or copy from the originals.

for the past 35 years, the basic rule in acad products is that if you can do something, someone else can undo it.  So that's not something I would ever expect (or want) to see
