Wanted: Shxviewer for Win 7
« on: May 09, 2016, 05:28:53 AM »
My old Shxviewer from 1998 and 2001 ran with Win XP, but now (Win 7 x64) it seem that they reached the end of their functionality  :-(

Who can recommend a ShxViewer for current OS?

Have a fine week!
Peter

SHX is pretty much going the wayside with TTF taking over. Also I suggest you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 as main stream support ended over a year ago.

Win7 extended support runs til 2020.

I think @Peter2 may be talking about a shape file viewer, not font viewer. Despite the fact that both file types are similar and share a file extension.

This conclusion may be applicable to your industry but it certainly isn't in Industrial or Oil & Gas.

No hostility, just sayin'.

No, I want to view SHX-fonts. There were some programs, but only for XP and older ...

No, not Shape from ESRI (GIS) and not shape SHP from Autodesk - SHX fonts from Autodesk...

...upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 ...
Only recommended for Acad 2016 and 2017 ...

Or Civil.
SHX fonts are still used 90% of the time here.

What does this tool need to do?

Something like this?

...or display a legend of every available character in the font file?

Why is that? The advantages of TTF in the digital era far out weigh what SHX can provide. Can it be summarized as a lack of incentive to invest in upgrading?

Yes, that's right. But I wanted to see the "current state" of this topic (if it exists ...), because Google still returns the old software from 2005.
