Import Lat/Long points into C3D 2013
« on: April 22, 2016, 11:10:56 AM »
Trying to import GPS data (lat/Long) into the attached dwg. Latitude for the imported points imports correctly, longitude, not (correct long = ~114 degrees, importing at ~246 degrees). I tried importing from a text file and the csv; same results. Also, the point description did not import. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Fortunately there were not many points and I was able to manually correct the longitudes to get it out the door. The incorrect points are those numbered 13398 - 13416.

Many thanks in advance - JR

I think they may just need a (-) sign or you used incorrect Coordinate system - one can test this using Google Earth  if you
enter the coordinates in your CSV file you wind up in Uzbeckystan  (actually just near Baruun-Urt western Mongolia)

If you add the (-) to the 114.00082 numbers you wind up in Montana

downloading your files now to verify those possibilities

where in the world is this data, so that I can at least check against something. (thanks)

yes the issue is this....your drawing is state plane International foot....

it might work best to set up a file on Lat, Longs (UTM)  import those points
and then export them using land xml

and then import them into your file using state plane / US Survey foot

As to the description NOT importing - that would fall onto your Point file Format...

I see:

Point Number    Lat(Decimal)   Long (Decimal)    Elevation   Description    comma delimited

one can always test/parse a file to see if the point file format is working as desired prior to actually importing points.

Argh - "no points tranferred from source" when importing points to the new dwg. Will have to set this aside for a bit. Thank you for your help.

I also noticed what appear to be some unwanted spaces in your descriptions....be wary of those

JR,

Easiest fix is to edit the CSV in Excel. Your "no points tranferred from source" is fixed by adding something in the Description slot. I added a period on the blank ones and then everything imports nicely. Attached CSV and Drawing.
