Mtext Edit box - can I dock it?

This is a regular annoyance...when I double click to edit mtext the edit box pops up in the center of the screen, generally obscuring the text I mean to edit. I know, I know I could put my text off center before editing but my brain refuses to remember to do that.
Can I dock this edit box somehow? Edit another way?
