Working with regions & meshes 3D, how?
« on: April 15, 2015, 03:16:53 pm »
Hi

I have a question about working with regions in 3D. Wonder how other AutoCAD 3D users handle this..

When a solid is being exploded they become regions (i believe that is, in most cases..)
I also noticed when working with imported data from other systems that 3D faces are not very complex but are good to work with to manipolate complex shapes.
Of course, it would be better to work with solids in the first place but i notice that sometimes it is inevitable to work with surfaces/meshes and regions.
The default surfaces autocad creates are not that great to handle.

I am looking for a good workaround to translate regions into 3D faces or meshes that are strechable. If you have any ideas, comments or suggestion, i appreciate it.

Design is something you should do with both hands. My 2d hand , my 3d hand ..

Autocad creates the regions on explode. They are not part of the 3D solid.

If it would help you to have some code that can stretch multiple 3D solids let me know and what version of Autocad, including 32 or 64 bit, you have running and if I have a version for that I will hook you up for free.

I appreciate that David. I was looking for ways to convert 3d regions to 3d faces but if solids could be stretched it is more powerfull anyway.

We use autocad (civil3d) 64 bit 2014 and 2016 coming soon.

Thanks in regard

lamarn, I strongly suggest you that you read and understand this topic... It may be beneficial for your work in 3D...

(To convert REGIONs to MESHes you use CONVTOMESH command, if your CAD supports it - A2010+)...
