[2013] Pipe rules not working
« on: February 22, 2013, 03:12:39 PM »
My pipe rules aren't working!!!!

Here are the steps I've been doing...

1) Create an alignment
2) Create a profile from the alignment
3) Create a feature line from the alignment and weed the vertices
4) Create a pipe network from the feature line
5 - and this is where things go south) I draw the pipes in the profile view and everything comes in flat, approximately 8' below the profile.  I've checked the default rule for the command and it's defined to use only 3' of cover with 10' max.  There are no other rules.

Is it because I'm not using a structure rule??  Just to clarify, the REASON I'm not using a structure rule is because I'm using null structures.  Basically what I'm trying to create is a ductbank using a box culvert.  Thoughts?  Suggestions?  Recommendations??

I can't verify this right now, but I think the cover rule needs a surface to calc the depth from.

When I create the feature line, it's referencing the profile which references a surface.  And when I create the network from the feature line, it asks for a surface and alignment.  I would think that's enough information for C3D to figure the rest out for me.   :|

OK, you didn't mention the surface so I didn't know you had one. Somewhere I recall seeing a document that explains how the rules work and what their dependencies are. I shall look around and see if I can locate it. Of course, if MJF sees this he will likely know off the top of his head. :-)

Here's one I had recalled. There's another, somewhere.

are you using that feature line data to create the inverts, or top of pipe?
IF
YES
that is telling the software to ignore the rules...

you should be able to apply the rules after the fact...
