Help - Dinamic block
« on: January 21, 2013, 10:19:42 AM »
Hey Folks,
I have a dinamic block and I want  to add rotate parameter in it.
But I'm having trouble because I don't wanna rotate the texts inside the block, I just want to rotate the rectangle.

Can anyone help me, please?

Thanks

What you want to do is associate your disks and text with a point parameter (which is in MOVE mode), one for each disk, then chain the two point parameters to the rotate parameter for the rectangle.  You don't associate the disks or the text to the rotate, you let the point parameter do that for you.  The disks will then act like ferris wheel cages.

ok, here's the in-the-flesh version of the mumbo jumbo I typed above.  I also set the point parameter grip to "0" for that parameter's property so the point grip isn't used by accident

insert as a block, don't open.

sure.  post what you have for your block, with 0,0 being the rotation base, and i'll walk you thru what I did to make it dynamic.  I don't think it will work well on the dimension part tho, if it is to be a part of the block.

never mind, you can change BP.

First I added all parameters only (no actions)
Then I double clicked each point parameter to start the object selection, picked "MOVE" option, then added the text and circle for each parameter.
Then select each point parameter and go over to properties dialog.  Change grip to 0, Chained: Yes, Show properties: No.
Double click the rotation parameter and then select the rectangle and then the point parameters ONLY.
Test. Done.

Nibster,
many Thanks!!
It's exactly what I was trying to do.

I have to go home now, and I'll take a look carefully in your block, tomorrow.
But I tested and worked like a charm!

Hi,
How did you associate the elements inside the block to rotate?
Because I've tried to do a block like yours, but when I rotate the block, the elements inside the block didn't.

I'm doing something wrong.
Could you help me, please?

did you follow my directions i posted with the block?   a common mistake is associating too much geometry with the rotate.

If you click on the little action icons while in the Block Editor you can see what objects are associated with the actions.

Yes, I did.
I forgot chain actions ON.
