Topic: Table from a Data link

Hi guys,

 I'm having trouble to format the table from a data link. The table is larger and I can't delete column or rows of the table.

Anybody can help me please?

When you create your data link, specify the rows and columns you want to show. Once its a linked table in autocad, autocad wont let you delete, it wouldn't be a data link then as it would not match the linked source

 But When I insert a Table from a data link, you can't specify the rows and columns.

So, Im not trying to create a table.
 
I've inserted from a data link. But the table is too large and I'd like to remove columns and rows.

Anybody can help me??

create a new data link from the same table with the rows/columns you want. Or edit the data link itself

You gotta unlock the cells

I always had bad luck doing that, dunno if 2013 plays better. That and saving data back to source I always had issues with.

Sorry for anyone who has dial-up and this was always easiest for me to do formating and add extra colums
 
Attached at bottom are updated files and should work if saved in same folder
 
 

• Open Excel SpreadSheet Select the cells you want and click in Name Box and enter name the press enter to create a named range.

 
 

• I named it Linky

 
 

• The use DATALINK command and select the NamedRange

 
 

• Then in TABLE command select the named range

 

 

• Select the entire table by clicking top left corner and unlock the cells

 
 

• Now the Linked cells will be available

 

• Click the the little arrow at bottom

 

• Then Check allow writing to source files

I know how, but have had cases where data did NOT write back to the source and it threw no sign of an error. My last company experimented with that a lot and had consistantly inconsistant results with it.  As I said, I have not messed with it in 2013 though.

The linking back to source file was thrown in for whoever but was pointing out that I have had better formatting luck creating a named range in excel file and using that as the source.

Good point, and I am glad you did, made me realize something with automation in that regards thats going to make some stuff a heck of a lot easier.

Not the quickest way but thought would be easiest to show how.
 
Depending on setting for cells in excel file and in autocad if a cell contents is very close to filling a cell it might cause it in autocad to make the row turn into two, until you get the settings right the quickest way was to click table and select open source and make column slighty bigger close and save
