Civil 3D: how to create a surface from the supplied shp files
« on: August 22, 2012, 03:19:55 PM »
I've received the following shp files, but when I insert them into Civil 3D, I can't figure out how to create a surface from them. I notice, under an extra field "OD:Contour1Ft", it gives a value for a field called "ContourEle". Is there a way to access this and assign it to the "Elevation" field and then create a surface from newly elevated polylines (they come in with a 0 elevation) or is there a way to just create a surface?

See attached file. Thanks guys.

Click Home tab → Create Ground Data panel → Surfaces drop-down → Create Surface From GIS Data

That's awesome!

BTW (for future users), don't forget to hit the "login" button and "map GIS data to Civil3D properties".

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Indeed, what alanjt says!

In the past I did some complicated things with Map queries to get the Elevation Object Data into the property of the contourlines but this functionality does that all! I wish I knew before! Silly how this one is hidden deeply inside the Ribbon.

Thank you, unpronounceable name! :-)
The conclusion is justified that the initialization of the development of critical subsystem optimizes the probability of success to the development of the technical behavior over a given period.

This should be stickied.

Now if I could only find some FEMA data that would come in correctly, I'd be set.
