Layers out of sorts, but only in the dropdown?

AutoCAD 2010
From one of my cohorts:
"Question for you…When I bring up the Layer menu the layers are all alphabetical which is the way it should be. When I click on the drop down button and the layers appear they are all jumbled . How or what do I do to get them into alphabetical order?"
Seems there must be a setting or something. Anyone?
Thanks in advance.

I answered my own question. Weird, though. Setting MAXSORT at a higher number (really high) did the trick, even though I would have thought that would apply to both the Layer Manager AND the pulldown.
Whatever works.
