I received my latest issue of JLC and this month they have an article on railing post base connections to decks, similar to the one they had on ledger connections. Various post base connections are tested in the article.
I thought the drafting for the article was excellent - really maybe it's more like technical illustration. I noticed that they break object lines where leaders cross them. The objects are shaded so it doesn't look "funny".
