PDF only
« on: September 30, 2011, 07:50:17 AM »
I've changed my templates to pdf only. If I need a check plot I do it out of Reader. This sure had made my life easier.

I've noticed at our office, quality is significantly reduced when printing to PDF, then plotting it to paper.  We use 'em to share, but dont plot with them exclusively.

The templates here are set to print to pdf as default, and we have to change it to the correct printer if we want to print direct from AutoCAD.  I dont know if this will change/evolve as and when our corporate standards get updated.
Thanks for explaining the word "many" to me, it means a lot.

I have notice that too but not in print quality.  But in drafter error or just not catching some thing because you could not see the "big picture on a full size sheet.  Until my table top becomes a full screen that has minimum dimensions of 24X36 with high quality screen, I will still print to do a check set.  But in in the fast pace of projects this process gets over looked.

However PDFs are becoming our main method of delivery.  The contractors want them, our outside printing repo service prefers them.  The clients want them for records.

Good question BTW.

Nope. Using the built-in PDF stuff.

I would love to convert my office over to DWFs for regular plots and PDFs for deliverables but...

Is it still Distiller (it was/is in 08)? I think the distiller stuff is horrid looking.

We use dwf's exclusively internally, and for some clients externally (they get it) but most still want pdf's as deliverables.  :pissed:

Yep, full blown Acrobat Pro. I do quite a bit of renders, so it's nice to include the raster images in the multi-page PDF with just a right click on the files.

And with the Adobe print engine the PDF's come out nice and crispy.

Our checkers and senior designers are all of the generation that did everything from red-lines to yellow-offs on paper copies, so PDF has made very little advancement here.  Its not just for working at your desk but also to take it to a meeting room to get everybody around the same physical drawings.
If you are going to fly by the seat of your pants, expect friction burns.
