Boundary command issues
« on: August 04, 2011, 11:38:05 AM »
For some reason I can't get the Boundary command to recognize this polyline.  (see attached).

This was a block but I've since Exploded, copied it into a clean file, modified the pline this way and that to get the boundary to see it.  What am I missing?

The pline of issue is the toilet with a rectangle around crossing the end points.  The idea is the area to boundary is a wall behind the toilet for hatching.  The boundary command is supposed to exclude the toilet all together but only partially recognizes the joined pline surrounding the toilet.  Hope that makes sense.

Thanks in advance.

what error message if any do you get?

Is the polyline closed, does it contain zero length segments, are all portions of it at the same elevation?

have you run FLATTEN on it?

No error it just ignores part or all of the pline, depending on shape.

Tried closed and open.

I'll check for zero lengths and I did run FLATTEN.

Thanks

and the ENTIRE polyline is visible and on the screen at the time you run the command?
Or are you zoomed in and see only a portion of it?

Yes, zoomed so the entire area is visible.

the cad geometry of that W/C is somehow 'bad' when I attempt to use boundary on the W/C elements it works.
If I pick outside the W/C it fails.
Even a Hatch fails with a boundary closure error.

You will want to dry drafting this differently, even if that means drawing certain segments so that they overlap others to get the boundary to be recognized as 'closed'

I don't disagree.  What makes it interesting is I have redrawn this polyline multiple times.  The issues seems to be related to the arcs.  I can make adjustments to the arc and get a good boundary but if the adjustment is "just so" the boundary fails.  I'm going to my support people and see if maybe it's a glitch.

Thanks for checking.

First, whom are these 'support' people?

Second, adjustments to HPGAPTOL seem to have no effect.

Third, and this could be a longshot...what is your setting for WHIPARC?

Fourth, what do you have set for circle and arc smoothness in options?

Are you using PELLIPSE mode?

um, the people I pay to support our AutoCAD.  AutoDesk resellers...

0 - Default

Fourth, what do you have set for circle and arc smoothness in options?

1000 - Default

Are you using PELLIPSE mode?

Thanks for the answers there slappy

Good luck getting any real help from those guys.  Also be sure to let us know IF they actually produce a workable solution.

In the meanwhile try some different settings for VIEWRES, and or WHIPARC to see if they have positive impact. (or make it worse)
