PDF search For Text.
« on: May 10, 2010, 09:13:45 AM »
I want to be able to do a text search in a PDF file after I plot it from Autocad.

Is there a way do this?  I know it is an image file after it is in PDF.  Is there a magical fix to this?

I did not know the correct forum this should be in Please move if needed

Thanks

I believe that if you create the PDF directly from AutoCAD, you can do a search for files containing text just using the Windows search function.  If it's a drawing that has been SCANNED into a PDF, you're ... out of luck.

I could be wrong, though.

How do I create the PDf directly from Autocad?  I try to use the adobe PDF printer and I also tried the DOPDF and neither of them worked.  I may but up one of these creeks

For what it is worth I tried do to do OCR and Adobe PDF says My DPI needs to be over 72DPI but when I plot to PDF I am using 600.

Thanks for the help

Right, there should be a DWG to PDF.pc3 file in your list of printers.  If not, use the Add a Printer wizard and add PDF from 'Autodesk ePlot (PDF)'.

Hmmm...

I stand corrected.  Sorry for giving you a little bit of false hope.

2010, actually.

Although the fonts have to be TTF in order for the PDF to be searchable.
