Print all Autocad Fonts
« on: January 22, 2010, 02:26:37 PM »
We are going thu a regime change and of course the 20 some odd year old title block needs a complete make over.  I was asked if there was a way to print out all the fonts out so the new leaders can throw darts at choose something new and fresh.

Thanks.

Of course there's a way.... or did you mean to ask if there's a QUICK way?

I don't know of a QUICK way to do it off the top of my head.

Load each font and type a sentence, copy it and make each one a different font.

This is one of those things that I would spend more time trying to find a quick way to do it than it would take me to do it the 'long' way.  :)

Actually, you might save some time doing a lot of it in word, then copying and pasting it into an mtext window

I searched briefly and couldn't find a drawing with a text object with for each default font...

Sounds like something simple for some programmer better than me to do...

In a drawing, I imagine you could get all the fonts loaded in Autocad and add them to a list.
Then using the # of items in the list;
You insert a text object with the first font, then looping through and going to the next item on the list... also increasing the Y insertion point by a set distance.

I'm not good with lists though, yet, and don't have the time to figure that out, though it'd be a handy lesson... :\

Probably possible to even have it make the text read a string that echoes the font name for ease.

Look for this drawing in the AutoCAD directories: truetype.dwg. It has most of the fonts in it.

Its only the Truetype fonts, but how many other fonts do you need.

...whatever you do... do NOT open your Windows font folder, highlight all fonts, and go to "FILE > PRINT"

...ask me how I know. :ugly:

I look and preformed a search and came up with nothing.  Any clues as to what rock it might be under.

You'd be done now if you had made a bunch of copies of the same sentence (ie., The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.) and loaded each font into your drawing...

Just thought I'd throw that out there.  :P

Huh  You are making my head hurt becuase of the blanks it is drawing.  I am missing something with the loading of the fonts and how they get applied to the text.   Please step me thru it.

Can you tell me what folder it was living in.  I am playing with ACA 2010
Thanks.  Windows search should have found it.

AutoCAD:

Style > New > set font name, then assign .shx file to that font name.  Repeat until complete.  Good luck staying awake, though.

C:\Program Files\AutoCAD Land Desktop 2008\Sample
That's where I found it, but as you can see I'm still using AutoCAD 2008.

I just checked.  Apparently plain AutoCAD has cut corners so much that they only offer an .html file that links to the Autodesk website, here: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=12456726&linkID=9240618

 :-D

Plenty o' sample files there, though, including Truetype.dwg.

Ahh  and this is why I did not find them and when open the document, it gave me this.

Location of Sample Files

The sample files are now available online and are no longer included on the AutoCAD DVD.

You can access the sample files at the following URL:

James beat me too it.  They did it ACA 2010 vertical as well.

In this terrible economy, it must help them save on shipping weight, and thus cost, by not burning those extra files on the dvds.

If they're burning it to a disc, isn't it essentially REMOVING part of the disc, thus, making the aforementioned disc LIGHTER, in turn, REDUCING the shipping costs in question?  Sounds like pure laziness to me!
