this page says yes:

http://www.bentley.com/en-US/Products/MicroStation/Whats-New.htm

or one could round trip through MAP

Map>>tools>>Import, change the file type and import the file,

the use the Map>>tools>>export, to DGN, or File Export to autocad with newer versions.

Thanks for the reply mjfarrell. The link leads to whats new in v8i  :?. I'm trying to find out how to do it in XM if its possible but the autocad solution is what we've been using so far.

We don't have power civil. (When i mentioned using the autocad solution, i meant we use autocad to import the shp)The mdl dialog opened fine, but it errors after hitting run. Maybe because i don't know the File Length, Version, or Shape Type? I'll play around with it though. Thanks. I appreciate you taking time to help!

so you are NOT running any of their GIS, or Civil products, just straight v8 XM....
perhaps that VB routine will be of more use...

Correct

I don't know the c language used by Microstation so hopefully, the mdl will work as is.

Why not convert the shape file to dxf and import the dxf into microstation?  In the days before Civil 3D I used DXF Author.

You can get it at http://www.mass.gov/mgis/dxf.htm.
