Express tools unloaded
« on: October 22, 2004, 04:14:59 PM »
I'm having a problem with my expresstools2004.  When I open CAD, my express tools get unloaded.  Ive removed all lisp files from my startup suite, and still the same thing.  This is whats happening when I start AutoCAD.

Does anyone have an idea of why CAD is unloading my tools?
Thanks in advance,

Perhaps AutoCAD is full and it's just vomitting.

Sorry, Friday afternoon, humour goes wonky.

HA HA that is just too funny ... unless you are the poor stiff trying to use expresstools.

It looks as if you are using a profile in your shortcut. Can you reload them?

Try opening AutoCAD by selecting a file or better yet, by clicking on the executable in the AutoCAD folder and don't use the shortcut....

Report your findings back please ...

you know, our IT guy loaded a program on my computer yesterday.  Its called global CAD.  Its a third party tool that links excel with ADT tags and schedules.  I tried to unload the damn thing but it won't let me... don't have administrative privilege, and the IT guy is MIA today. :x

I see.  All I have to do is type "expresstools" at the command line and it loads.  I'm just frustrated cause I don't know why it unloads it in the first place.

Are you passed your 16 menu pop limit for the drop down menu?

Well, that isn't it then ... it could be that your new program for some reason unloads it. Find your acadapp.lsp, acad200xdoc.lsp, acaddoc.lsp and if you have one acad.lsp, also identify if you are having any menus loading besides the standard menu ad expresstools menu (you can use menuload) then identify any mnl files that are loading, each of these may hold a clue as to why the expresstools are being unloaded.

thanks for the help keith.  I've looked at the files you suggested and I didn't see anything abnormal about it.  I've also checked my menuload and I don't see anything wrong with that either. I've tried uninstalling the tools and reinstall, but still the same thing.

I would suspect then it has to do with the new software recently installed. If it is not being unloaded from any of the menu lisps or from the lisps loaded at startup it must be the addon program - but for whatever reason I could never imagine...

Dannny, is there anyway you could zip up all your acad*.lsp and acad*.mnl files and then post them (temporarilly) to lily_pond? Might make it easier to track the elusive problem if blood hounds like Keith see where the rabbit is hiding for themselves (I'll try too). If you don't feel comfortable posting them to lilly what about direct? I can provide an email addy and a pledge that once the problem is found or the search is abandoned I'd thoroughly erradicate any sugestion of the files from my system.

MP,
I posted them in the lilly pond under /danny. You know, I could just create a reactor that will enter the (command "expresstools") into my startup suite.  If thats less of a burden.  Its not a mager problem, just one that got under my skin.

Guessing ...

Let me ask you this, is the pulldown for Express Tools the 6th or 7th menu item after the View pulldown menu counting accross (increasing to the right) by any chance?

For example:

File Edit View Menu1 Menu2 ... ExpressX

Where X is 6 or 7?

I've noticed if I create a new profile, under options, called "danny" and set that to current, the express pool down shows up.  But for some reason the "Architectural Desktop" is set curent every time AutoCAD is launched.  So I tried deleting "Architectural Desktop" from the profiles, and then renaming "danny"(this profile worked) to "Architectural Desktop". When I launch AutoCAD, still no Express pulldown.

That is because ADT uses the ARG file for the settings for the profile and will not allow you to use a different profile unless you change the shortcut to load the program. Also sometimes the double click settings to open an associated file type will point to the shortcut OR will have the arg setting in the file description for loading. It is not one of Autodesk's crowning acheivements....
