Need Help Learning MAP and RASTER Design

Are there any books or video tutorials that explain how to use these two verticals that i need to learn? Using the help file doesnt help muchand it's overwhealming when starting from scratch.

I could give you a short course in them that would have you productive in two days....

You will discover that the 'courseware' and the classes will not really get you where you need to be.
