Automate this?
« on: January 23, 2009, 01:16:45 PM »
Hello,

In the attached drawing, is there a way to create those solid hatches automatically by selecting all those lines and arcs? Disregard the different colors. That's not needed. Any suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks Jeff. From what we've tried so far with C3D, it is not easy (if not impossible) to do exactly what we want. Usually there is a minimum NET lot area requirement for different kinds of parcels. The net area is obtained by subtracting easement area, shown in green color in the attached image, from the gross lot area. I haven't found a way in C3D to dynamically update those NET areas so I know I'm meeting the minimum acreage. Any suggestion?

Uusing the Boundary command you can create a pline then use the Area command.
This will give you what you want on most of the lots. The process can be automated.
The lots that are divided will take another step in the process.

Bad thing about the boundary command, it often fails with parcels....so much so that I rarely even try to use it any more.

Wait a minute...didn't Luis respond to this? He has/had a very slick program that that does this far better than the Boundary command. Luis, I wasn't trying to downplay wha you posted, I just knew that Kelie has C3D and was offering that approach.

Kelie, search for Luis' GPoly. I think that's what he had posted the link to.

Hi Jeff,

I took that out, because it is a third party app... that's why

And no, no problem at all :)

Export those boundary lines to autocad..
make sure they are closed boundaries,
then assign them to the correct layer per land use or zoning type, and or attach Map>>Object Data to them.
Save the file

Open a MAP session
attach the file you just saved as a source
perform a query
with Alter Properties enabled
Create a Range Table for the property types/hatch relationship
Execute the Query...
one could also set up the range table to label the lot type and areas as well...
Be your Best

Thanks Alan. I was using BOUNDARY command. But I'll need to pick point one by one, right? I was looking for a way to eliminate the picking step, if possible.

Here is a nice way to automate the use of the boundary command with a scanline method of finding all of the boundaries:
