DIMENSION MESS IN DRAWING
« on: October 01, 2004, 02:56:40 PM »
When I put a dimension in this particular drawing I get GD&T blocks all over the place.  Also when I move my crosshairs across this drawing the cross hairs are very jumpy.

Please help

AUTOCAD 2004 XP

Also I have a image of what is going on but I do not know where or how to show it in this forum.

There are used in Mechanical Drawings

Geometric dimension and tolerancing.

Like True postion and Flatness.

if you are a member you can upload your image to the lilly pond then insert a link to it. are these symbols incorporatred into the dimensions style maybe. what happens if you try to purge the drawing

Yes I have it posted under the same topic.

This is what shows up after I pick the two lines I want to dimension and before I finish putting the dimension on the print.

No one knows what this error might mean or any insight what so ever.  I will just have to redraw it.

Thanks

The problem is likely due to corruption of third party objects in the drawing. It looks like the error message is telling you that some custom entity is not defined properly programatically. This cannot be fixed by you unless you erase the offending entities.

Try Pressing the F9 key, does the cursor smooth out?

The jumpiness could be caused if the snap is on and set to a small increment.

Please save before opening this file

I am going to post a dwg file to the Lilly pond.  Please look at this file.  It is a cut and paste from the original bigger file.  Please window the enities to show all the grips.  Then try to move a dimension using the grips on the dimension.

I think you will see what I am talking about after you look at the file.

Thanks

Works fine after the tolerences are deleted.

I do not want to delete over 100 FCS blocks in this drawing.  But if that is what I have to do so be it.

Thanks for all of your help

Is this something that is just in Mechanical Desktop?

I opened it in Vanilla 2004 and can play with all the dimension grips; no problems.

What do you have set up for your grips in Options, Selections....
Could that make a difference?

Sorry I can't recreate it.

No we do not have mechanical desktop here.

Autocad 2004 is the same program I am using.

So it works ok when you try to grip and slide the dimensions around?

How about the goemetry?  Can you stretch or move that around?

I am running out of options

My grips option are set as
enable grips toggled on
enable grips tips toggled on
enable grips within blocks off

Every once in a while I get an API error.

Thanks

Yeah I have stretched most everything on the drawing

Toggled On
Object Selection Limit for display of Grips

Ok here is what worked for me.

1.  Select all you tolerences using qselect
2.  Change the Dim Scale Overall from 0 to 1 in your properties dialog box.
