This should be fun.  What I'd like to hear are things that really make you cringe when you see another Autocad user doin it.  For an example, I know of one operator that will type her osnaps in at the command line.. Not just "end" for endpoint but the WHOLE word "Endpoint"..

Another one is blipmodes.. My GAWD that drives me insane..

OK, the rules are, you can only post two of them at a time and there has to be say 10 posts before your next one.  Don't want anyone monopolizing the thread..

Lets see whacha got!!

What drives me completely and totally berzerko (besides you guys) ......

1) Not using osnaps at all ... the attitude is ..."that's close enough"

2) Using relational/directional offsets for entering points ... i.e. @12>>90 or however it is written instead of dragging the cursor to a polar point or offset direction and simply entering the length.

Hey, I've seen people that can type '_endpoint' before I can find  the 'e' key.......

The fastest ones use minimal mouse clicks, use shortcut  keyboard commands and are touch typist's.  To each there own and until you can best them, let 'em be.  Getting off of my stump now.     -David

someone increasing the length of a line by drawing a new line segment onto the end of the original instead of using grips.

someone typing "mm" after every dimension when it states clearly on the title block "All dimensions in millimetres unless otherwise stated"

1. People who do 1 hour on AutoCAD and then say they are a fully trained CAD operator and then ask me, how to draw a line, insert a block etc...

2. Having to tell the above mentioned people for the millionth time how paper space works, if you don't get it by the 100th time of asking you never will.

People that aren't conscious of what layer they are working on and then change the color of the object so it looks like it's on some layer.

People that explode hatch, dimensions, blocks....etc.

more than 5 years and don't know how to wblock

same people who don't know what scale factor to
use to get a 1/4"=1'-0" drawing

1. People who, when you show them a new (faster) way to do something, shrug and say, "Well, I'm used to doing it the old way."

o my you've opened a can of worms here

people who feel the need to write typical on every dimension doesn't that defeat the purpose  :!:

people who don't use logical names for drawings folders (know what i mean mdub   )

Drawing numbers and Directory names with spaces make it really hard to use scripts.  We use either Underscores or Hyphens and it works just fine.  For files not covered under any standard, I use UpperAndLower case to do the same thing...

People who don't know how to use AutoCAD but state AutoCAD experience on their resume so they can be employed, producing gems which smack of all the maladies listed above.

I find questions that allow the user to reveal their own stupidity / expertise work rather well.

"We're starting a new project, what scales would you recommend for modelspace?" (Trick question).

"Where's the best place to place floating viewports?" (Trick question).

"How would you instruct a collegue to create a tapered extrusion?"

"I'm new to 3D, explain in simple terms what it means if an object's normal projects due south."

Etc.

If the candidate truly knows what he / she is doing these questions will be fun and / or easy, otherwise they'll be going "Umm, well, errr".

ME!!! ME!!! ... oh wait ... nevermind ... I'd never get Dr.Demento to go to Missery

MP ... Ok I'm stupid ... just what does it mean when an object's normal projects south?

I can model with the best of them and in 5 years I have never heard this expression.

On the other questions how is this ....

1) I always recommend a 1:1 but If you want the modelspace drawing a different scale then I can make that happen as well... I just don't recommend it.

2) Uh .. in PS... unless your trick is in reference to the "floating" part ... but by nature aren't all viewports in PS "floating"? Unless you are referring to the "non-floating" fixed viewports you get when Tilemode is set to 1 and the vports command is issued.... but the whole issue was supposed to be a trick now wasn't it...

3) Depends.... typically ...extrude ... set height ... set taper angle ... unless the angle is not known but the height and "depth" of taper is known ... then I would chamfer the object ... of course presuming the taper as specified can exist on that particular object, or I might simply select the plane on which it is to be tapered and subtract the uneeded portion ... it all depends of course on the shape of the object....

It means the object was created when the UCS was rotated +90° about the Y-Axis or it was rotated same after creation in the WCS.

As for your other responses they reveal a good understanding of the material. You made the short list.

Now then, do you play guitar? No? Thank you for your participation, we sincerely wish you luck in your future endeavors.

We have an arkeetek here who refuses to use the standard layers cause his colors "just look better on the screen"
Same guy: does not know how to use paper space, so he inserts a title block in model space (I can live with that) then decides his drawing needs to be 1/4" scale instead of 1/8" scale and proceeds to scale the MODEL! (of course he had to first explode all of the dimensions!!!)

Uh... I used to play guitar ... like 20 years ago ... I went through some real tough economic times and pawned my Gibson, sold my others outright ... never retrieved it from pawn ... and never picked another tune .. well, I uh.. tried to a couple of years ago, but I was sooo terribly out of practice and my poor fingers hurt me so bad, I decided against buying another guitar... I don't really have the time for it anyway...
