Plotter Ink/Cartridges
« on: August 12, 2008, 10:47:17 AM »
I know this might sound a dumb question, but...

I have noticed that printer/plotter ink cartridges have a "use by" date on them. We have some that are a couple of years past their use by date.

Will it cause a problem if we use the ink, or do we need to throw them away and buy new ones?

Many thanks in advance

the problem is not so much that you will be causing a problem more than the ink, even though it is in a sealed package, will dry out some and can lead to clogged print heads .. but since most ink cartridges have the print heads built in, if they don't work, or stop working, throw them out then .. not before ...

as for toner for laser printers, they will absorb moisture over time and will not adhere to the drum electrostatically. This will cause problems if the toner is used for prolonged periods of time as it will require more frequent cleanings.

Thanks for your reply Keith.

Its put my mind at rest. I wont throw the cartidges out unless there is a problem with the plots.

Cheers
