IMO ... you could probably replace most of the functions from express tools with functions here on TheSwamp  8)
We started a thread a while back where we were rewriting a lot of the express tool functions.

I think I remember that .. here's my contribution  ;D

Code: [Select]
(ACET-FULL-DWGNAME)
(defun swamp-full-filename nil (strcat (getvar 'dwgprefix) (getvar 'dwgname)))
(swamp-full-filename)

On second thought, I'm not going to spend any more time on this. Pretty disappointing that rather than say "great, documentation for express tools" people say "youre violating the law" so that's about enough for me to not want to proceed :0

Instead of taking your marbles and going home I'd suggest you leverage the former fire in the belly enthusiasm you had for documenting the express tools and instead write your own lucidly documented library from scratch -- you will emerge with a library you can call your own and distribute however you deem appropriate -- and you will become significantly smarter in the process -- the least of these is invaluable and the other more valuable than that.

I'm fairly certain that posting here constitutes a copy, and any downloads are further copies....

These sort of comments just make me sick. It was obvious I was just trying to contribute, free of charge, to help the community. And I don't even think they're moderators on this board. *shrug* But you offer good advice, and I thank you for that.

If that's how I should be looking at it rather than how I was, then I shall. Apologies...

Ummm dude, I think you missed the subtle point that they were doing you a favour by anteing up warnings you would be well served to heed.

It was obvious I was just trying to contribute, free of charge, to help the community.

Regardless your intentions, copyright law is clear. Their willingness to help prevent you from making a mistake should not be construed as them wishing to sh!t on your parade.

tl;dr: You should be thanking them.

No apologies necessary. All I ask is that you return the favor if you ever catch me doing something stupid.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_use

Apology was to Kerry, not Owen...and I don't consider this a favor at all. More nitpicking than anything. Refer to the Wikipedia link.
Knowing full well that it's fair use, and asking for something in return...after suggesting it in the first place....*boggle*
It would make 100% sense if I was doing this for any sort of personal gain....however, that's not the case and I made that very clear.

Well, Back to the box for me, I won't be ctrl+v headers into these boards again that's for sure.

As a side example, I could post television shows which aren't available into YouTube without any personal gain.  But that is certainly *not* fair use.  This isn't the 1980's, intellectual property rights do exist and should be taken with a modicum of seriousness.  If you had posted some guidelines to the use of the Express functions that would be acceptable but wholesale reproduction of code won't fall under any exceptions.
If you are going to fly by the seat of your pants, expect friction burns.

try {GreatPower;}
   catch (notResponsible)
      {NextTime(PlanAhead);}
   finally
      {MasterBasics;}

Yes David, I think that is the core of the issue.

Bhull1985,
If in doubt contact AutoDesk. I'm imagine they would have no objection to you providing additional documentation and guidelines.
