When I use the Distance command it gives back the dist in Inches.  Is there a way to use to get back Feet or Yards? :-P

I believe this is controlled in your units preferences.  Type DDUNITS and change it to whatever you prefer.

DDUNITS brings up the drawing units tab.  I changed it to FEET, but it still gave back an INCHES result.

dang... I don't have AutoCAD at home, so I can't try it out for you...
When in the middle of the command, have you already hit F1 to see if there's anything in the help file about it?

Perhaps there is a little confusion here.
If your units are inches and di reports 5 units between points
then if you change your units to yards and distance reports 5 units, they are both correct.
It's not until you scale the dwg that you will see something different.

Make sure, in the UNITS window, the units for length type are set to "Architectural"
