Help with a Commercial Plan Notes?
« on: June 12, 2007, 08:48:06 PM »
I'm trying to read some ragged reduced size prints and usually only deal with houses.
This plan is a 2 story office building.

What size is an 'I' beam when the call out is 'W18x50'  'W18x40' 'W18x31'
How about a Bar Joist '14H3'  '8H3'

And how would one call out a concrete foundation pad with 2 layers of steel?
16'-0" x 3'-0" x 1'-6" With 9 #4 rebar the short direction & 4 #5 rebar in the long direction, #5 on the bottom

What is you wanted two rebar mats, one on top of the pad & one bottom?

CAB,

I looked at my charts and I have different numbers than Peter ... although I do not have W18x31 either ...
the smallest I have is W18x35 ...

anyway ...

W18x40
width = 6.015
height = 17.90

W18x50
width = 7.495
height = 17.99

8H3 and 14H3 seem to be designations for open web steel trusses. If that is the case the height is 8 and 14 respectively. I don't have anything indicating the width of the trusses.

If all you need is relative sizes, then DDSTEEL.LSP has W4x13 thru W36X300.

There's a W8X31... common common beam... maybe a typo made it 18?

Slab rebar callout:

Top Steel: 9-#4 longitudinal, 4-#5 transverse
Bottom Steel: 4-#5 etc., etc.

Or 9-#4 longitudinal, 4-#5 transverse, top and bottom

With or without leaders pointing to the reinf.

There's other ways, too.  Anything that communicates to the rod-busters.

Whoops, I transposed the bar quantities for the longitudinal vs. transverse bars.

Sorry.

Yes, I now think that it is a typo.
I think it reads  W16x31

Thanks Josh and Keith

Hi Kerry,

No haven't done any contract work for 4 years now, just been working full time (wages) on the sunny coast & enjoying the weather.
Have been looking at getting into a bit of coding again though, been reading up on C#, looks much easier than C & C++.

Cheers...

Pete
