Autodesk Land Desk 3 + Automation of Drawings
« on: June 22, 2004, 10:38:53 AM »
Just curious, Is it hard to have land desk automate drawings for the user? Or Dynamically have drawings which are current through the whole set?

EX. besides using xrefs, having information from a sheet drawing title by dynamically linked to its cover sheet. when cover sheet title changes, so does the sheet drawing title and versa.

EX. Labeling lines etc. user picks a line and a leader will start and you choose where the text goes by it labeling the type of line which it is... Existing Concrete, then that is what it would label.

Or, a job directory or folder is all setup with template drawings in it, base, sheet 1, sheet 2, sheet 3, etc. and all you need to do is drop in data information into the base.dwg which is already xrefed to the sheet 1, etc,  User then opens Sheet 1, and pans and sets mview scale, add some labels... and plots?

and any other types of steps or ideas.
I know it will take time and tweaking.

Thanks for your help!

MSTG007 -

You can talk with your companies IT's and have them look into the autosetup when a new job is created, but I believe you may have to have OEM copies of LDD and Map. I am not too positive on the software, but I do know for a fact that you can have it automated like you are looking for.

IE -

When creating a new project, LDD now creates these folders for my company:

dwg
-xref
-blocks
-void
-recorded
e-mail
-outgoing
-incoming
excel
word
landscape
-dwg
-blocks
-void
-xref

Therefore anytime we create a new project, it is automatically setup for us.

I will see what our IT says, and see what I can grab for ya.

that is simply done using prototypes in LDT.

I use a combination of prototypes and templates for each new job. I setup a template for LDT that contains layers, layouts, etc.

Well I know we used actually coding in our company. I was actually just talking with our it guy and he showed me all of the exact work that it took. Maybe then prototypes would be a way to go for 007 for now then?

You can put lots of stuff in your prototype folders, like standard borders that you xref in, documents such as standard notes. The beauty if it is it's all in one place under the project name. Which is great if your client wants all the data files.
