Topic: New to CAD with a problem.

I'm trying to copy items from one drawing to another but for some reason it's not happening.
Can select items on one drawing but when I go to paste them on the other one not able to view / see them.
As I said I'm very much a begginer so any help would be appreciated.

First off; Welcome to The Swamp. 

Second; What make and version of CAD do you have?  Some older versions did not have the cut/copy & paste feature.

Third; You should be able to go to EDIT pull down & select the operation you want, just follow the instruction on the command line at the bottom of the screen.  Then go to the drawing you want to paste in and go to the EDIT pull down menu and select the paste operation you want.

Fourth; if that fails, look up the command WBLOCK (that is if you are running an Autodesk Product) in help and follow the instructions.   A tried and true meathod.

Are you maybe copying objects on a layer which could be frozen off on your drawing?

I've done this before and it can be confusing.

Another thought, once pasted, did you zoom extents?

Running on AutoCAD 2006....thanks for your help / comments .....I'll give them a try and see if it fixes the problem.

wasn't there a known issue with cut'n'paste in 2006 and they had to fix it with a service pack ? or am I off in never never land again

2007 had a cut and paste issue, but while it pastes, but no one else could copy and paste from the drawing, so this could be the problem if the drawing originated on a  machine with an unpatched 2007 version installed.

This may be the answer as the drawing I'm working on came from one of our customers who got it from one of his customers etc, etc, etc

and in my (somewhat limited) experience, SolidWorks is. period.  (I'm agreeing with you Josh!)
...but I'm not gonna get into a debate on what the meaning of the word is        is.
