3DSmax and Trees

Greetings,

I am using MAx and would like to know if there is a more efficient way of placing tree objects on a terrain object.

I know there is commercial and expensive add-ons to place 1000's of trees however although I would like to purchase I cannot justify it to the boss, you know the problems.:-)

I am in the habit of creating criss cross tree opacity maps and manually placing,copying,rotating and finally attempting to align them to the terrain mesh but is a VERY tedious operation.

I have tried a few scripts like glue however seem to only place objects rellative to the normal of any one particular face of the terrain mesh, I just want to drop all of the trees down to meet the undulating mesh object.

Any one got something for me here?
