( C3D ) "Edit Keys" for Description Keys not working?
« on: December 01, 2006, 01:00:55 pm »
What happened here?  I can't edit my description keys.

Well, I can, but when I right-click on the Description Key and hit "Edit Keys", only the first key will go into the Panorama window.  It's as if I only have one Description Key.  It looks like I can still edit them in the Toolspace window, just not in the Panorama...

Highlight all that you want to edit, then right-click & Edit. All of the highlighted ones will be in the Panorama for editing.  Wait, I just tested and it looks like mine acts as you think it should......do you have SP3 installed?

Unless you wish to "spice up your Civil experience", ahem, DON'T hit CTRL-A thinking you will select all of the description keys......doing so will go through every branch in the Settings tree and expand them out so you can conveniently see every branch.....took about 2 minutes on my little laptop.....grrrrrr.

I'll check.  I'm almost certain that I do.

I tranfered the project I was working on to my house, and here I have no problem.  It's just at work.  That machine has been having some other strange issues, too...  My QLEADER is behaving very strangely in Land Desktop.  I've seen a number of those "object class does not match registered class" errors in Land Desktop lately on that machine.  I suspect I may have one of those "mysteriously trashed installation" problems that some others have reported having...

Found the solution from Jeff Hickey.  In the Registry Editor, browse to this location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.0\ACAD-5000:409\Profiles\<<Unnamed Profile>>\Dialogs\AxUiMgrItem

and reset or delete this key:

AeccMgrDescriptionKeyCol:List:AxUiPltPanoramaVista:DescKey Editor

As near as I can tell, this problem occurs any time you try to sort your description keys.

Basically, the top line of the Desc Key Editor in Panorama view is broken.  If you try to use it, it won't do anything useful.  The "Edit..." option is broken - there is no way to change more than one Desc Key at a time.  There is no way to change the sort order of your keys - if you try, nothing will happen, and the next time you try to "Edit Keys", the editor will be mostly empty.

A royal PITA.  But at least now I know how to avoid trashing the Desc Key editor completely - don't touch that top bar!
