Hokey folks This is the reason I'm here,

the very subject that justified a good couple hours of Autodesk user group browsing and you guys have won.

2D ELEVATIONS

I've been baking my noodle with this baby for the last 72 hours straight and I'm pretty chuffed with what i've got so far.
The icing on the cake would be to find a way so that the facets of the curved walls were not displayed when generating the 2d elevation and that the horizontal lines representing the top and bottom of the wall in each xref'd level were also not displayed.

cos otherwise i'm gonna hafta do a lotta linework editing :ugly:

Any help on this would be greatly greatly appreciated.

unfortunately not.  that i'm aware of at least.

The model consists of a variety of AEC objects; walls, window assemblies, railings and although the display properties of each of these include layer settings none are as specific  to the top of a wall say or how the facets of a 3d curved wall display.

I'm hoping the answer lies in some acad variable unknown to myself or in the design rules for 2d elevation styles.

Are this "facets of a curved wall" 3D objects?
If so in paperspace, select viewport =>rt click=>shade plot=>hidden (maybe ?)

The lines that are shown are the top/bottom of the wall - correct?  If so, the section cut sees them as an edge and therefore adds the line to the elevation.

Nah.... that won't work because the elevation is basically a 2D block.

I don't think there's an answer for this, unless like he said, there's some hidden variable, but I don't see anything in ADT 2005.

Do you have those xref's in there to complete the elevation?  Do they HAVE to be in there?

Can you turn off the floor and wall layers, but keep other stuff on?

Do you have Merge Common Materials turned on??!??

You'll have to go into each xref and modify the wall style, then re-cut your section/elevation and that should eliminate the lines from the tops and bottoms of the walls in your elevation view.

First off - sorry sorry - I went home leaving my box on to refresh all elevations in the project (best done over night) I didn't realise  i was still logged on.  Thats what 8 hours sleep over 3 nights does to ya!!

Thanks for all the replies - I knew this was gonna be a good forum.

SO.....after a 5 hour design team meeting (nice) in Glasgow (76 mi. away - nice nice) without the elevations (you get the picture) I return to the job.....

Matt - you are right about the merge common materials (I could only find a check box in the matterial definitions display properties dialogue box) and it was checked already 

checked the definitions in all xrefs and they were all there.

reloaded all xrefs and regenerated all elevations but no joy.

Have opted for disguising the unwanted horizontal lines by plastering some hefty FFL lines atop and linework editing the curved facade.

ADT 2D ELEVATIONS may have won the battle this time but it aint won the war!!!   :pissed:

OR i'm still doing something wrong  - Dom did you say you've managed to get these elevations to work before?

bytw what time is for you guys?  Here in scotland it's 8.10pm I've never managed to get the hang of these international forums.

Well that sucks.  Hmmmm.... Is there a wall style over-ride??  Not sure if you can do it for that; just throwing out an idea.  I'll keep diggin'.  If you find something before I do, please post what you found.

Am just back from the East Coast - I spent a week in NYC for my 30th Pretty mind blowing actually

Tried to find North Central on google earth and it took me to Hartford, CT.  Anywhere near you?
