Make ADT Curtain Walls look like Strorefront
« on: September 19, 2006, 02:25:29 PM »
How the heck do I make curtain wall look like storefront?  I dont care about the elevation view so much but the plan view is the important part.

I have place continuous storefront along 355+/- feet with some "ins and outs".  this would be an excellent thing to use a ADT tool but (1) I cant find a Storefront tool and (2) I don't see a Curtian wall style that is close to a storefront.  We don't use the full boat ADT package, just the Ceiling grid and Detail Componet Manager (which I love by the way).  That is right,  no ADT walls all individual lines.  We are a 2d shop.  Long story about typical Maine reluctance.

I tried to look at modifying a existing style but I don't know where to begin.  Help me land the air plane please!!! (or tell me to jump out of the plane and place the vertical mullions one at a time).

Thanks.

Describe to me more by what you mean by "storefront"?  I have an image in my head, but I don't think its the same as what you are looking for. :D

w/o walls, how are you drawing curtain walls in the first place?

Perhaps the most common use of Store Front: Strip Malls

Yes but what I have is a 400 bed student housing sitting on top of parking garage and small retail.  The Architect is smoking some good stuff (bastard wont share) and wants to dress the whole floor with store front; garage and all.  <I am going to be changing this when the prices come back)

See attached sample portion of plan.  Very similar to curtain wall but smaller.  similar install too.

I guess I don't see a difference, or you need to be a bit more specific.

What is the materials being used?

Is it all glass?

Pre-cast?

CMU?

Combination?

Looks like you have a structural steel framework and just putting up a facade.

Correct.  See Kawneer 451T series for storefront.

As from the previous posted dwg, we had punched openings.  that is gone bye bye.  1 continuous piece with with 2x4 intermedate vertical mulls and 4.5"x4.5" vertical corner mulls roughly 350' long.

When I need to sometime show a fence as on this job also, I will take railing style and hack at them to get what I need.  Sometimes I will generate a 2d elevation from that fence.  this is the closest we get to ADT and 3d.

I am very suprise that some curtian style isn't already set up for this application.

Glass glazing and aluminum frame set in front of structral cast-in-place beams and columns.

If your just doing 2d, you could use EFCO Corp. Elevation Generators - for plans and elevations.

Thanks for the tip though I could not find the Storefront generator.  I did sign up for the engineering data and it told me I would get my password in less than three days.   :-( :|

Uh, yeah they have a few glitches in the new setup. The new generators should be available online in a bit. Probably too late for you though, sorry.

Yeah need by noon tomorrow.  I was hoping that style could be tweaked to make it easier.  Oh well.  It looks I will be jumping out of that plane.   :-)

Thanks for the help guys.
