digital line graphs from geocomm
« on: July 19, 2006, 01:30:28 PM »
I have downloaded digital line graphs from geocomm.  I have imported it into lld 2005, and they come in as points.  Thay come in on three different layers. How do I make them into lines, or better yet how do I connect the dots?

How big is your DLG file? Perhaps you could attach it for us to look at.

Are you sure that's not DEM converted to dwg? That's what it looks like to me.

Although none of the nodes have a Z value ....

When you go to the page to download it it states that it is a dlg.  But after I down load it is a ddf file.  Then I imported it into lld, it is a dem file with 0 z elevations.  I don't know what to expect.  I am trying to create a topo map with linework on it

Thanks for trying to help!!!!!

Is it possible for us to get to this data? In other words is it a free service?

Mark, much of the stuff from Geocomm is free, but you have to register and create an account to download.  I think there also may be some restrictions on how much can be downloaded in any given session.  Some data sets are for purchase only and if you want your data on a CD there is a fee also.

Thanks for the info Dino. I was trying to figure out if Kathy was getting some bad data sets or something. Because all of the DLG's I've seen do in fact have some type of line work in them. Maybe it got lost in the conversion. < guess >

I couldn't tell much from the image, but it sounded like there was some error made in importing the file.  If things aren't set up exactly right some surprising results can be had.  I have just worked through a few quick lessons on importing data and it still takes me 2 or three tries when I have the steps outlined right in front of me.
