Self scaling text in a viewport
« on: June 01, 2006, 03:31:24 PM »
Anyone have a good idea how to have self scaling text in a viewport?

If i change the viewport scale, the text would scale to make up the differences?

thanks

I think I  could do that, but how would you keep it lined up straight and not on top of each other?

Sometimes the question is more important than the answer. (Thanks Kerry for reminding me)

Put it in paperspace and stays the same size all the time.

but doesn't stay positioned relative to mspace objects.

MSTG007, I don't think you're going to find what you want.  I have no doubt that Cmdr. Duh, USN Ret. or several other people here could write a program to scale text when a viewport changes size.  It would still require quite a bit of cleanup and I don't think that it would save you any time over doing it manually.  In fact, it might actually cost you time in the long run.  It would be nice though, text and blocks scaled and fit as needed.

Properly created Civil 3D 2007 text labels will also do this if you really want to throw time and money at the problem.

I use a vba sub to do similar. I select an area and all the text mtext, leaders dims ref blocks get resized. It's handy, but like has been said you still have to go in close and adjust to make it look nice. You also need to know the name of the ref blocks to make it work. I'll post something if you are interested.

There's the scaletext command, not automatic though; you have to select the text you want to scale.
