I generally turn off all TSR proggys when installing ANY software.
Cuz the DM guide will F you up, yo.

Sorry, I saw the TSR, and yes, I know what it means, and D&D popped into my head.

I haven't played that since '88, I had a "Magical Guitar" courtesy of a good hearted DM, I still have my D&D folder with all my spells, weapons, charts, maps and such. Gonna break it out tonight and see whats salvageable, and show it to Hanna (its time she knows how much of a geek daddy was/is).

What does TSR stand for?

Terminate and Stay Resident

Like anti-virus and other software that stays active in memory.

Terminate and Stay Resident, like AV utilities that operate in the background. The term is actually a bit of a misnomer, it's more like "Operate transparently in the background until there is need and / or instruction to make the application visible or known".

Edit: Like Bob said.

So what, besides AV software could be screwing up my installs?
I have half a mind to just disable EVERYTHING and then try the install...

Haven't a clue, but I know some installs will fail if you attempt to install from a virtual drive, i.e. one created vis the DOS SUBST command. Are you installing from a real local drive, like drive c: ?

I usually right click everything and hit exit until the the right side of my start bar is fairly empty (except volume etc.). Its just a precautionary thing.

Well, I guess that can't hurt either. I will try this as well...

As far as what drive I installed this from, I stuck Disc1 of the ADT2006 3-pack of disks into my CD/CRW drive and then went to the Add/Remove Programs part of my computer, which I went through Control Panels to get to...

I don't know what "virtual" drive I would have landed on by doing all of this. I think the re-install was done based on the C:/ drive but I can't be sure...
I know it had to use the disks to get the re-install right, does that make a difference?

I will re-install with all of the crap on thr right side of my start bar turned off and let you all know how it went.
Thanks for all of the input thus far, you guys really rock!
