Using the Defpoints layer for Alignments station reminders?
« on: August 17, 2005, 12:35:25 PM »
Hi Swampers

Using 2004 LDT new State (WA), found that people at my present
have been storing there alignments in Defpoints layer, rather than using
a layer like (C-rd-cl-align) with no plot function in the layer
manager. Old habits have taught me that using Defpoints for holding
alignments has been a NO-NO. Any thoughts out there that using Defpoints layer for alignments might be a (it's going to bite me in the..)
or is it really safe. Any thoughts about using this. And another question
would be other than not allowing to Plot, what good is Depoints used for in the first place, and is it being used today by LDT for anything like xdata or other unknown uses we as users should watch out for lurking demons.

Mike in WA

ps: just found some good points in the AUTOLISP section, but any additional comments on safety
using the Beign Layerwould still be appreciated.

I have found nothing that LDT in it's default state will place on the defpoints layer.  Someone may have gotten creative however and assigned it to some objects in the user settings.  It really shouldn't be a problem having things on defpoints (only poor techinque) except if you have to isolate something from a variety of objects that have been dumped there.  Also if layer 0 is frozen or turned off for some reason, items on defpoints remain visible but can not be selected.

I do appreciate all you experience, Thanks. I have been of the same
mind on use with Defpoints... don't like it, just needed some backup
to present the boss.

Thanks again
